Anno 1800: Settle Manola – first steps and electricity for artistas

With the 12th DLC of the Anno 1800 series, the large island of Manola was created in the New World, which brings truly gigantic news. In this article we would like to show you how to colonize the island, what you need and what are the very first steps to take in order to later access electricity in the New World and get the new population level of Artistas.

Settle Manola in the New World

To colonize the island, you must travel (or fly) to the coastal region of the island with a cargo ship or airship and have 10 tons of lumber and 8 tons of steel beams on board. At the same time you need 66 points of influence to settle the island. If necessary, you can raise a few engineering houses or remove a chamber of commerce at short notice, so that the new island is not taken over by one of your competitors.

Fertility on Manola

Once you have colonized the island, you should immediately start building houses – ideally you should immediately set the Hacienda to be able to enjoy the benefits from it. The best tip is to add Manola directly to your existing trade routes and set minimum stock levels in case you use distribution routes. This way, the new island can be supplied with resources and food very quickly. A few depots at the beginning won’t hurt, as 75 or 150 tons are a bit low for massive construction in the New World. The fertilities on Manola are as follows:

You have bananas, sugar cane, cotton, corn, coffee and herbs at your disposal for cultivation. With the help of the research institute in the Old World, the fertility of an island can be changed.

Regarding resources, you can set 4 clay pits, use 9 oil wells and build 2 gold mines. 5 bauxite mines and one helium site are available. In addition, you will find 4 times the important iron deposit as well as 7 possibilities to mine ore. You see: In Manola you have similar powerful resources as on Crown Falls at Cape Trelawney.

Set the hacienda and let the citizens ascend

Once you have set the Hacienda, you can immediately start building Journalero Houses and Obrera Houses. Make sure that you fulfill the needs quickly. Important: In order to build Hacienda Artistas, you will need at least one „normal“ Artista to enter your island in the classical way. Therefore, the classical way of building houses should not be completely ignored on one part of the island. Basically, however, this is not a problem, since the same resources are needed and the same needs will be requested. However, without going through the „classic chain“ once, you cannot set your Hacienda-Artistas.

Little by little, the other needs of your inhabitants will be unlocked. Only then, when all basic needs of your Obreras are fulfilled, you can set Artista houses. This is the goal for now, so that the course is set to be able to use electricity for production buildings in the future.

The first steps of the construction

As you can see, there is a lot of activity at the beginning of the construction in Manola. The first houses are set in the Hacienda’s sphere of influence and the docks ensure that all air and cargo ships can be dispatched on time.

Develop first Artista house

When all Obrera needs are met, you can upgrade the first Artista house. In the next step, all Hacienda buildings will also be unlocked, so you can also place Artista houses within your Hacienda. You should do this immediately, as these workers are much more effective and better than if you continue the classic way.

The hacienda artistas have a completely different design and also one more row of pixels than if you build the classic houses. Nevertheless, we recommend building as many Artista houses as possible around the Hacienda.

The chain of needs is really complex. You should have enough tortillas, sewing machines, coffee and melons. Other goods, however, not yet. Eyeglasses, for example, can be conveniently imported from the old world. And your next goal should be electricity.

Electricity in the New World

Only when you have 4,000 Artistas living in your world can you start building the hydroelectric plant or dam that will bring you electricity. So make sure that you fulfill as many needs of your Artistas as possible, so that the corresponding functions are unlocked in Anno 1800 in the New World. Sure, it’s a long way to go, but if glasses are already delivered, some residents will move in and more needs will be unlocked, increasing the migration to your city even more. The biggest difficulty for getting the stream up and running is attracting 4,000 Artistas to your island. After that, it becomes relatively easy, as the first construction steps can be accomplished with absolute basic resources. 60 tons of wood and 90 tons of bricks must be used to set the first of three construction phases of the dam’s foundation.

Set electricity plant and build in 3 phases.

First of all, do not forget to place a warehouse near the waterfall in Manola, where the dam can be placed. Only then can the construction of the dam or hydroelectric plant begin. This is the only way to transport resources needed for construction. The first phase of construction takes 30 minutes. Unfortunately, it cannot be accelerated, so you will have to wait until you can start the second phase of construction.

The second phase of construction also takes 30 minutes, but requires a slightly different set of resources: 150 tons of bricks and 150 tons of steel beams are needed here. However, none of this is witchcraft, because: At this point in the game, you should have these resources in abundance. And even if they are not available in the New World, you can easily ship them from the Old World. Unfortunately, the construction speed can’t be accelerated at this point either, so you’ll just have to wait until your dam in the New World or the hydroelectric plant is finished. So it’s worth starting construction as early as possible – even if no production buildings have been placed on the island yet.

The third and final stage of this „monument“ is relatively easy to master: You only need 150 tons of windows and 150 tons of reinforced concrete. Sure, these are resources that are only found in the Old World. Still, the quantities aren’t really unusual, so they’ll ship from Cape Trelawney or your main island in the Old World very quickly. So see that the resources are right there so that construction can begin. By the way, this can be done even before the entire required amount has arrived. Again, unfortunately, the construction time is 30 minutes, so you need a total of 1:30 hours until the dam is completed and your island is supplied with electricity.

Dam completed

You see – if you have a little patience, the dam is completed after some time. Now you have the possibility to supply your producing industries with electricity. Just make sure that you are always connected to the hydroelectric power plant or dam by road – just don’t tear down the operations necessary for its construction. A great monument or resource has been created at this point, doubling your island’s productivity and giving you similar benefits as you would in the Old World.

No matter where you are on Manola now: Every road is powered – every production building runs at double speed. So you have made a start and have created an island where a lot of production can be done and where there is enough space to accommodate different production lines.

Conclusion

Logically, it takes quite a while to get started and you will have to spend an hour or two playing to definitely settle Manola. Nevertheless, this effort is definitely worth it. You’ll manage to double your production and have quite a bit of space for various productions, which will naturally become more extensive as the game progresses. It is a great expansion that every ambitious Anno 1800 player should try out. We hope you enjoy your first steps in the New Kingdom of Manola!
